Transfiguration Year 1
Lesson 1
Professor Ciano entered the classroom and leaving her bag on her desk she spoke to the students: "Good day to you, children. My name is Tabitha Ciano and I am your new Transfiguration professor." she said and smiled.
"Although it seems fairly easy transfiguration requires logic, practice and constant studying".
Professor Ciano made a little speech pause as she turned to write something on the board. Then she faced the students again.
"Today we will learn about the Fera Verto charm. You can read the basics on the board. Please write them down in your notebooks" - Professor Ciano said and unlocked one door opposite of the entry in the classroom, disappearing for a while.
When she came back she had a caged bird with her. She released the bird and placed it on her desk.
"As you already read and wrote down Fera Verto is a charm that transfigures animals into water goblets. The meaning of the word fera in Latin is 'beast' or 'animal' and the meaning of verto is 'I turn'. You should say it out loud clearly so there won't be any incidents. We shall now see how it's done".
She pointed the wand at the bird, eyed it carefully above her glasses and tapped the wand three times.
"Fera Verto" she said clearly and the bird transformed in a rather big goblet full of water.
"I won't make you try it out right now, I would only like you to memorize the way I did it and to study the notes carefully for the next lesson. Your homework will be to answer the following questions" she said as she turned her back to the students again to write the questions on the board.
- What is very important to remember about pronouncing Fera Verto?
- What kind of charm is Fera Verto?
- What is the meaning of the words Fera Verto is consisted of?
- Describe the way I transformed the bird into a goblet.
/ Each question is worth 2 points. Elaborate homework gets 2+ points.
Please don't copy the answers from any wiki sites. You have all of them in the lesson. Just read carefully.

Week 2
Professor Ciano rushed in the classroom after being late for five minutes.
"I am very sorry for being late! We will start with our practice right away!" she said and went in the little side-room to take the caged bird.
"Last time we talked about the Fera Verto charm. Today all of you will try to transform animals in goblets, just as I did. Please, one by one, go in the room I just came out from and take one of the long brown boxes in the cupboard to the right. Be careful!" she spoke as she released the bird and placed it on the desk.
After few minutes, when everyone was equipped with the brown boxes, Professor Ciano spoke again:
"I will show you how to do the charm again. After I do so, open the boxes in front of you. There you will find young mouses which you are supposed to turn in goblets."
Professor Ciano tapped the wand three times, counting silently and then clearly said: "Fera Verto."
As the last time - the bird turned in a water goblet, shiny and big.
"Now you try it. Don't be afraid, just count silently to three, tap the wand as you count and clearly say Fera Verto."
She smiled and gestured to the students to start.
Half an hour later, when everyone had tried the charm and had pretty good results, Professor Ciano announced the homework.
"Please write down the experience you had today. Add as much details as possible and make it be at least 6 lines long. Goodbye."
// Many details and proper grammar, please! The highest grade brings 10 points!

Also I apologize for this inconvenience, I was really busy in real life and so I didn't manage to email the lessons to the Headmistress.
Cheers!
Week 3
Professor Ciano was in the little side-room when the students started entering the classroom.
She came back balancing many old books in her arms.
"Perhaps you wonder why I do it the muggle way?" she asked instead of hello.
Not seeing the nods from the students she answered: "I forgot my wand on the desk and I was too lazy to go back and get it!"
She chuckled and put the books on her desk.
"Now, hello! Today we will have a very easy charm to learn. First, one by one, come here and take one of these books." she said and sat on her chair.
After every student had taken one of the pile of old dusty books she smiled and cleared her throat.
"So, today, we meet the charm Snufflifors. With using Snufflifors we will transfigure those books in mice. All that is known about this charm is it's colour. And that's it, easy, right?"
Professor Ciano took the remaining book and placed it in front of her.
"Snufflifors" she said and in a flash of purple light the book turned in a very excited mice.
"See. Now try it yourself. Remember to keep your voice clear!"
Professor Ciano waited for all students to try the charm and see how it works for them. It was pretty successful.
"There, very simple. For homework you should write about your experience with this charm. What do you know about it? What did you do? What was the outcome? At least three lines, please! See you!"
// This is a very short lesson, I know. But first-years don't really have anything hard. :)
For nicely written and three lines long homework you get 8 points!

Lesson 4
"Hello students!" Professor Ciano said.
"I hope that you are fine. I am quite busy with some private issues at the moment so this lesson will be very short one!" she continued, nodding sadly at the frowns of the students.
"I know, I know. Today we will learn and practice the charm Scribblifors. Using it we can turn some objects, like fork for example, into a writing quill. Sounds interesting? It's very easy!"
Sitting up from her chair Professor Ciano took a tiny elephant figurine in her hand and showed it to the students.
Pointing her wand at the figurine she said: "Scribblifors"
The figurine turned into a gray quill. She waved the quill and placed it back on her desk.
"There, that's it. Now, please, take the little figurines in front of you and try to turn them into a writing quill." she said and started walking around the classroom, checking the progress of the students' work.
"Very well. I like that pink colour!" she said and pointed towards the quill in the hands of one of the girls.
"Unfortunately I have to leave now. You will be free the rest of the lesson, you may use the free time to practice, write your homework or study for what you have to! Your homework is to simply describe your experience with Scribblifors. See you next time!"
With that, Professor Ciano was out of sight.
//Nothing much is asked of you to write in here, just two or three lines about what you did. Use your imagination and make a good story.
You may get 5 points if it's up to three lines and you may get 10 points if you make a longer story with details and everything.
You can't find anything on the internet so as I said, better use your imagination! :)
Cheers!
Lesson 5
"Good day students." Professor Ciano greeted in a very quiet voice.
"Unfortunately, I managed to get a cold and now I must be very careful with my voice. Please listen to me carefully." she said and made a little cough-pause.
"Today we will learn a new spell called Avifors. It is a spell that transfigures objects into a bird. In second year we will learn the same just we will transfigure an object into a flock of birds! It is spelled AVI-forz and it is derived from Latin. 'Avis' in latin means 'bird' and 'fors' stands for luck or change."
Professor Ciano placed a mug on her desk and pointed her wand towards it.
"AVI-forz!" she said and in a flash of vivid blue the mug transfigured in a big bird in the same colour. The bird flied above the heads of the students.
"There. That would be all. There are few facts on the board, copy them and try to remember! Now pick up a figurine from the cupboard in the side-room and come back to attempt to transfigure it in a bird." she added and sat down on her chair.
Fifteen minutes later there were plenty of birds flying around in the classroom.
"Homework is up on the board." Professor Ciano said.
- What is Avifors? What does it do?
- What kind of light is seen when it's used?
- What words is Avifors made of and what do they mean? In which language?
- Describe the way you turned your figurine/object in a bird.
// You know the email, you know the instructions!
This homework brings you 8 points. You may get +2 if it's elaborate.
Have a lovely day/evening.
Lesson 6
It was darker than usual in the classroom when the students entered.
"Hello!" was heard from the side-room.
Soon Professor Ciano came back and gave a big grin to her students.
"I hope you are doing well!" she said and went back in the side-room.
Five minutes later she came back again, holding a rather spacious cage in which there was a black rabbit.
"This is my rabbit Louis. He's almost fully blind and that's why our classroom is darker today. We need Louis so I can show you the spell we will learn about today. There's actually nothing much to say about it." she told the students and placed the cage on her desk.
Louis was holding his head towards the students, trying to catch as many sounds as possible with his huge ears. He looked old and funny.
"The spell's name is Steelclaw. It's used to enlarge the claws of an animal and transfigure them into steel! Our dear old Louis is used to this spell and I'm sure he will gladly participate so her can be left alone later." Professor Ciano babbled and took her position on the side of the desk.
"S-teel-clou." she said and even though it was dark in the classroom the students could notice how Louis' claws were transfigured into steel and much bigger. Murmurs filled the classroom. Professor Ciano smiled.
"Nothing else. You may come to see Louis as soon as you've finished with taking notes. Just, one by one, please." she added and sat back to smile at every student that would approach the desk to see the rabbit.
"Your homework is to write a line or two about what you saw today!" Professor Ciano said at the end of the lesson.
//There, nothing much :) This homework brings you 5 points.
Cheers!
Lesson 7
Professor Ciano was reading a book when the students entered the classroom. Being focused on the book she missed the numerous greetings. Almost ten minutes passed before she turned the page and turned her eyes to the students.
"Hello everyone! I'm a bit busy reading this...uh, well, nevermind. Today, as in the last few lessons, we will learn about a new spell." she said and put the book down, standing up from her chair and taking position in front of her desk.
"The spell we meet today is called Duro. It is spell which transfigures objects into stone. The word duro means ' I harden' or 'I stiffen'. You get it. I will show you how it's used and then I expect of you to be able to turn your books into stones, after a bit of practice, of course!" Professor Ciano said and took a galleon from the desk. She then showed it to the class, put it back on the desk, took out her wand and pointing it towards the coin, said: "Duro"
The coin transfigured into a shiny little stone. Professor Ciano took it again and gave it to the student in front of her so he could look at it and then pass it to the rest of students.
"Come on, you try it now!" she smiled at them and encouraged them to try the new spell.
"Just to inform you, next lesson we will have a revision of all of the spells we've learned about. It will be in a form of test and will contain the basic questions only. You had those questions for homework often so it won't be a trouble, I think. Just check your notes and homework." she added while the students were practicing the newly learned spell.
At the end of the lesson the homework was up on the board.
"As you can see on the board for homework you have few sentences. Have a lovely day!"
- What is Duro? What does it do?
- At least two lines about your experience with this spell.
// The homework brings 5 points! You know the email.
Cheers!
Lesson 8
Professor Ciano was standing in the middle of the classroom, looking around and placing papers on the desks.
She waited for the students to take their places and then started talking.
"This is the revision test we will have. It's not hard at all! Do your best!"
1. What does Fera Verto do?
2. What is the meaning of the words Fera Verto is consisted of?
3. What is Snufflifors? What does it do?
4. What is Scribblifors? What does it do?
5. What does Avifors do?
6. What words is Avifors consisted of? What do they mean?
7. What kind of light shows up when Avifors is used?
8. What kind of spell is Steelclaw? (What does it do!)
9. What is Duro? What does it do?
10. What does the word Duro mean?
// No cheating! Just check your knowledge :)
For 10 correct answers you get 30 points!
Good luck.
Lesson 9
Professor Ciano was not in the classroom when the students entered, not even when they were seated and ready for the lesson.
Ten minutes later she burst through the door, breathless and obviously very tired.
"Good day, dear students! I apologize for this inconvenience but I had to help Professor Lestrange with something really important." she said unlocking the door of the side-room.
"Today we will learn about Lapifors. It's a little complicated and you may not succeed at it on the beginning but you're smart children so you will grasp the concept, I believe." they could hear her talking from the room.
She came back holding a package.
"It's full of rabbit statues!" she said as she put it down on her desk and opened it.
"You may start taking, one by one, please." Professor Ciano added and sat down to calm down.
When the students had the little rabbit statues in front of them she rose up again and waved to get their attention.
"Lapifors is a spell used for transfiguring of rabbit statues in real rabbits. Yes! It's possible to turn another magical creature in rabbit too, using this spell, but we will learn that some later year. In Latin lepus means hare and fors means strength. As you have probably noticed fors is added to other transfiguration spells too!" she explained and then grabbed one of the tiny statues left in the package.
"Let's try it out now." she said and with a flick of her wand and "Lapifors!" said out loud the little figurine turned into a real, very much alive rabbit. It was not big but quite small in fact. And white.
"There. You may try now but don't get disappointed if your attempts aren't successful. We will practice it some more next time."
The rest of the lesson passed with a lot of 'Lapifors' murmurs and few successful tranfigurations.
At the end Professor Ciano reminded her students to write down the definitions she put on the board and asked them to do their homework, as usually.
- What is Lapifors? What does it do?
- Explain the spell Lapifors.
- Write about your attempt to use Lapifors. Was it successful? How many attempts were there? What colour was your rabbit and how it behaved?
At least five lines, please!!

Lesson 10
Professor Ciano stood behind her desk smiling cheerfully at the students and welcoming each one of them.
She waited few minutes for them to sit down and prepare everything and then she spoke.
"Next lesson we will have exams. It had been such a wonderful experience - working with you, this year. You are a very good group of students although I must say I expect a tiny bit more work in the homework area! I also expect you to pass your exam with high marks because you showed quite good knowledge in my lessons! Good luck to you!"
She paused for the words to sink in and then she continued.
"Today we will learn another spell. I know it's too much spells for you this year but please be patient! Next year we will have much more theory about the subject Transfiguration. But that - next year! Now, the spell we will learn is called Glisseo. It comes from the French word Glisser which means 'to slip' or 'slide'. It is a spell used to make rough or rigid surfaces become temporary smooth and slippery."
"The pronunciation is gliss-SAY-oh or GLISS-ee-oh. You choose your way. It's assumed that the stars in the girls' dormitory are charmed with Glisseo so they could prevent boys from entering. Isn't it interesting? Have you ever tried to walk in girls' dormitory boys? And slipped?" Professor Ciano asked and smiled at the students.
"It's alright. We won't try out the spell today, leave it for some other time. I want you to write down in your notebooks the few definitions I mentioned and learn them well."
Your homework:
- What is Glisseo? What does it do?
- Do we know of something charmed with Glisseo in Hogwarts?
- What are the two ways to pronounce Glisseo?
- What word/s is it made of? In what language?
- If you ever had the chance to use this spell in a battle/duel, would you use it? What would you make slippery and why?
// Full homework brings you 30 points!
You know the email! Please write, I don't think that my homework is too hard.
And if it is - tell me!
Also feel free to comment on my lessons or ask/criticize something. I am open to suggestions! :)
